An acoustic duo is one of the most adaptable bookings you can make. Two performers, compact equipment and a sound you can talk over or dance to. Here is when a duo makes sense.
Where duos shine
- Wedding ceremonies and drinks receptions. Gentle, live music that doesn't overpower conversation.
- Small and medium venues. Pubs, restaurants and function rooms where a full band would be too loud or too big.
- Garden parties and marquees. Less equipment, less power and quicker set-up.
- Venues with sound limiters. A duo can keep volume down without losing the feel of live music.
Acoustic duo or vocal duo?
"Duo" can mean different things:
- Acoustic duos usually play live instruments, such as guitar and vocals. Becky & Josh are an acoustic duo on our books.
- Vocal harmony duos sing together, often to backing tracks, and can deliver a bigger party sound. Seventh Heaven, Scandal and S!REN are vocal duos who suit party nights.
If you want a quiet daytime set followed by a lively evening, ask whether the duo can do both.
What to ask
- Do you play live instruments, backing tracks or both?
- Can you play an acoustic set and then a party set?
- How much space and power do you need?
- Can you learn a special song, such as a first dance?
- Can you play outdoors, and what do you need if you do?
Outdoor sets
For garden parties, the duo will need a flat, covered area, protection from rain and sun, and a safe power supply. Agree a fallback if the weather turns.
Quick answers
Is an acoustic duo loud enough for a party?
For small to medium rooms, often yes. For a big dance floor, a vocal duo with backing tracks or a full band may be better.
Can a duo play the wedding ceremony?
Many can. Remember that civil ceremonies need registrar approval for songs.
