A children's entertainer can turn a noisy room of excited children into a party everyone remembers. This checklist covers what to sort out before you book.

1. Match the entertainer to the age group

  • Under 5s: short routines, songs, bubbles and simple games. Attention spans are short, so variety matters.
  • 5 to 8: the classic party age. Magic, games, dancing and prizes all work.
  • 9 to 12: older children can be harder to impress. Discos, dance-offs and high-energy hosts usually go down better than traditional magic.

Sparky Marky is a children's entertainer on our books. For a pop-themed party, a character tribute such as our Jo Jo Siwa tribute can be a fun alternative.

2. Decide how long the party is

Most children's parties run for around two hours. Many entertainers structure the time as games and entertainment, a break for food, then more games or a disco. Ask how they split the time.

3. Check the space

  • A clear area for children to sit and play games
  • Somewhere for the entertainer to set up near a socket
  • Space away from the food table
  • For a home party, a room cleared of breakables

Church halls, community centres and function rooms at local clubs are popular because they offer space and parking.

4. Ask the right questions

  1. What age group is your show designed for?
  2. What is included: magic, games, disco, balloon modelling, prizes?
  3. Do you bring your own sound system?
  4. Do you hold public liability insurance?
  5. Do you hold a DBS check? Many children's entertainers do; it's reasonable to ask.
  6. How do you handle shy children or children with additional needs?

5. Plan the food break

Agree when food will be served so the entertainer can build the show around it. Many parties have food in the middle; others have it at the end.

6. Tell the entertainer about the birthday child

Name, age, interests and anything they'd love (or hate). A good entertainer will make the birthday child feel special without putting them on the spot if they're shy.

7. Have an adult in charge

The entertainer runs the show, but parents remain responsible for the children. Have a couple of adults on hand for toilet trips and any upsets.

Quick answers

How far ahead should I book a children's entertainer?

Weekend dates often go several weeks to a few months ahead, especially in school holidays.

Can the entertainer perform outdoors?

Often, yes, with a dry, level space and access to power. Always have an indoor fallback.

Are there hidden booking fees?

No. With Flair the price we quote is the price you pay.
