"How much does a tribute act cost?" is the question we are asked most often, and the honest answer is that it depends. Two acts that look similar on paper can be priced very differently, and the same act can cost more on a Saturday in December than on a Thursday in February.

Rather than quote figures that wouldn't apply to your event, this guide explains what actually drives the price. Once you understand those factors you can make sensible choices about where to spend your budget and where to save.

The act itself

Experience, demand and reputation all play a part. A tribute who has spent years perfecting a show, who works every weekend and who has a strong following will usually command a higher fee than someone newer to the circuit. Television appearances or a national touring profile tend to raise demand, and demand raises the price.

That doesn't mean newer acts are a gamble. Many excellent performers are simply earlier in their careers. Watching videos helps you judge quality for yourself.

Size of the line-up

This is the single biggest factor. Every extra performer on stage is another person to pay, feed and transport.

  • Solo tributes to backing tracks are usually the most affordable option.
  • Duos and groups, such as ABBA Dreamgirls, a Spice Girls show or a Four Seasons tribute like Big Men In Town, cost more because there are more people involved and more costumes and choreography to maintain.
  • Full live-band tributes sit at the top end because of the number of musicians and the equipment they bring.

If your heart is set on a particular artist, ask whether the act offers different formats. Some can perform solo or with backing singers or dancers.

Day of the week and time of year

Entertainment follows the same supply and demand rules as hotels and flights.

  • Saturdays are the most in-demand night of the week, all year round.
  • Fridays are close behind, particularly in summer.
  • Sundays to Thursdays are generally easier to book and may be more flexible.
  • December is the busiest month of the year by far, with Christmas parties every night of the week.
  • Bank holidays and New Year's Eve are in a category of their own. New Year's Eve in particular is often priced at a premium.

If your date is flexible, ask about weeknights or quieter months. You may be able to book a bigger act for the same budget.

Travel and accommodation

Acts usually build travel into their fee. Booking a performer based relatively close to your venue keeps costs down. Our acts are based across the UK, with many in Yorkshire and the North, so we can often suggest a strong local option.

For long distances or very late finishes, overnight accommodation may be needed. Ask whether the quote includes it.

Length of performance

Most tribute acts work to a standard format of either two 45-minute sets or one longer show. Asking for extra sets, an early arrival for a daytime element, or a very late finish can add to the fee. On the other hand, a short slot, such as a 30-minute surprise appearance, doesn't always cost proportionally less, because the performer still has the same travel and preparation time.

Production: sound, lights and staging

Most tribute acts bring their own PA and basic lighting, and this is normally included. If your event needs more, such as a bigger sound system for a large hall, a stage, or extra lighting, there may be additional costs. Outdoor events usually need a covered stage and a safe power supply.

Special requests

Learning a new song, recording a personalised video message, or adding a specific costume can involve extra work. Many acts are happy to do this, but ask early and check whether it affects the price.

How to get the best value

  1. Be flexible on the date. A Thursday or Sunday can open up more options.
  2. Book early. The acts you want are more likely to be free, and you won't be choosing from whoever is left.
  3. Match the act to the room. A solo tribute in a small function room often creates a better atmosphere than a big group squeezed into a corner.
  4. Combine roles. Some acts can also provide DJ music before and after their sets, which saves booking a separate DJ.
  5. Ask for alternatives. If your first choice is outside your budget, we can suggest similar acts.

Why agencies quote individually

You may notice that we don't publish a fixed price list. That's deliberate. A quote that ignores your date, location and timings would be misleading. When you send us your details, we come back with a tailored quote for the acts that suit you, and there's no obligation to book.

What to check on your quote

  • Performance times and number of sets
  • Whether PA, lighting and background music are included
  • Travel and any accommodation
  • Deposit amount and when the balance is due
  • What happens if the act is unable to perform

Is it worth paying more?

Not always. A more expensive act isn't automatically the right act. What matters most is the fit: the right artist for your guests, a format that suits your room, and a performer with the experience to read the crowd. A well-matched solo tribute in a function room can create a better night than a bigger, pricier show in a space that's too small for it.

In short

The price of a tribute act comes down to who they are, how many people are on stage, when and where you need them, and how long they perform. Understanding those factors helps you spend your budget where it makes the biggest difference.
