New Year's Eve is a single night that everyone wants. Acts, venues and taxis are all in demand, so planning early matters more than for almost any other date.
Book early
Many acts take New Year's Eve bookings a year or more in advance. If you run a venue, it is worth securing next year's act soon after this year's party.
Plan the night around midnight
Everything should build towards the countdown:
- Early evening: food and background music.
- First set: a warm-up set as the room fills.
- Break: buffet or a DJ playlist.
- Second set: the high-energy set that carries the room to midnight.
- Midnight: the countdown, Auld Lang Syne and a big party song straight after.
- After midnight: a final set or recorded music.
Agree with the act exactly who leads the countdown and which song comes next. A compère or host-style entertainer such as Taff Tenerife, a musician, entertainer, DJ and compère, can carry the whole night.
Choosing the act
- Party bands such as Black Lace or family bands like Beardsmith suit big, mixed crowds.
- Tributes give the night a theme. A Robbie Williams tribute suits a singalong crowd.
- Vocal entertainers suit social clubs and smaller venues.
Practicalities
- Travel. Acts may have to travel on a night with limited transport. Confirm arrival times carefully.
- Finish time. Check your venue's licence for New Year's Eve.
- Guests' transport. Pre-book taxis or arrange a minibus.
