Comedians for Christmas Parties

Office parties versus private parties

• Office parties: A comedian who reads a room quickly is essential, because colleagues range from directors to new starters. Ask for a set that teases the season, not individual staff, unless you agree otherwise in advance.
• Club and society functions: A longer set suits members who come for the entertainment.
• Private parties at home or a marquee: A short set before the buffet works well.

Planning the night

1. Book early. Friday nights in December go first.
2. Put the comedy after the Christmas dinner and before the disco.
3. Make sure the room is quiet. Close the bar shutters during the set if possible.
4. Use a microphone with a stand, not the DJ's handheld in the corner.

Comedians such as Jack Ryan list corporate events and award ceremonies among their bookings, and Ricky K covers functions and private parties.
