Entertainment in Pontefract & Castleford

Getting there

The M62 runs right past both towns, so acts usually travel east from junction 26 or 27 to junctions 31 to 33. Depending on traffic, it is a straightforward motorway run.

Venues in the Five Towns

The area has a rich mix of venues:

• Working men's clubs and social clubs, many still with weekly entertainment
• Rugby league club function rooms, popular for birthdays, presentation nights and fundraisers
• Hotels and racecourse hospitality in Pontefract for weddings, corporate days and Christmas parties
• Pub function rooms and community halls for smaller parties

Events we book

Club nights, birthdays, anniversaries, sports club presentation evenings and Christmas parties are the most common. For a rugby club presentation night, a comedian or after-dinner speaker followed by a party band or vocalist works well.

Rugby league nights

Rugby league is woven into life in the Five Towns, and club function rooms host everything from presentation nights and testimonial dinners to birthday parties. These audiences love a comedian who can hold a room, a vocal entertainer with plenty of banter, or a party band to finish. For presentation and testimonial nights, an after-dinner speaker or comedy host keeps the formal part moving before the party starts.

If you're organising a club event, tell us the format and timings and we'll suggest a line-up that fits.

Choosing an act

Club audiences in the Five Towns know a good act when they see one. Strong vocal entertainers, vocal comedians and well-known tributes go down well. For family events, choose acts with broad appeal and consider a children's entertainer early on.
